Your expectations of the labour required by your garden are shaped to fit the size of your garden, aren’t they?

What I mean is that even when you have a tiny garden, in the spring it feels as if it’s going to run away with you. ‘Oh, I should have pruned [or sown, or mown, or transplanted, or cleared, or whatever] that by now . . .’
